Level 0, The Backrooms – 27 August 2026: Secret Mode, the independent UK publisher behind the triple BAFTA-winning Still Wakes the Deep, has today released a free new level for viral co-op horror sensation Escape the Backrooms available on all consoles.

Level 421, also known as Plastic Mariana, is an abandoned M.E.G. outpost connected to a children's hospital. Evade patrolling Scratchers as you work your way through dark, claustrophobic corridors to escape the outpost. No-clip into a seemingly endless ballpit and wade through what appears to be the home of a terrifying shark entity. Solve puzzles, shoot hoops, and secure your route into Overgrowth... if you survive that long.

The free level has been added to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Escape the Backrooms first being unleashed on the world in Early Access in 2022. The game launched on PlayStation®5 and XBOX Series X|S in May 2026 and has since reached over five million players on console, as well as being one of the top ten downloaded games on the PlayStation Store in June and July.

Escape the Backrooms and Level 421 are available now across PC, PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch™ 2. It is also available on XBOX Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass.
